About Me

  • Sophie Mckercher

    Lead Facilitator and Consultant

  • My background is in Psychology and Social Services, having completed my Bachelor in Psychological Science and Honours in Psychology. I bring years of direct practice experience through working on the front line and in leadership in residential youth care, foster care, family preservation and restoration, and education. I have worked alongside families, parents and children who are experiencing diversities, developed successful intervention programs, and supported both organisational and team growth.

Reflection At Your Door was born from my passion for these areas. It came from the need I saw in the lack of effective and available professional support for those who work in areas that involve crisis, trauma recovery, risk management and emotionally taxing situations. I also recognise the impact on our broader community and society if these people are unable to perform in their roles due to work-place stress or burn-out.

  • Training: Alcohol and Drugs, Mental Health, Family Violence, Sexual Trauma, Child Development, Disabilities, Trauma-Based Behaviours, Behaviour Change, Leadership, Crisis Intervention, and Risk Management.

Practice Approaches: Strengths-Based, Acceptance Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Capacity Building and Reflective Practice.

FAQs

  • Professional Supervision focuses on supported self-reflection and growth relating to work-related challenges. It focuses on working through difficulties that you are experiencing in your role or work-place, identifying your strengths and developing strategies that protect your wellbeing.

    It can benefit individuals through:

    • providing a confidential space that is seperate from your workplace and is free from workplace influence or bias

    • preventing burn out and supporting healthy stress reduction and management

    • creating improved self-awareness and confidence

    • assisting with increased role satisfaction and maintaining motivation

    • professional and personal growth

    • skill and knowledge development

    • exposure to new perspectives and ways of thinking

    • providing a safe and therapeutic space to off-load or process difficult situations

  • The benefits of professional supervision with an external provider extends well beyond those directly felt by the individual accessing the support.

Empowered and regulated team members means improved decision making and critical thinking. Exposure to new perspectives and opportunities to reflect increases the likelihood of bigger picture thinking and a greater ability to harness creativity. Team members who can uphold boundaries, feel motivated by growth yet also celebrate their wins means reduced burn out and increased staff satisfaction. A stable team means less wobbly feet and room to devote the much needed resources to expansion and consolidation.

    Professional Supervision can:

    • enhance team wellbeing and foster resilience

    • improve service quality and performance outcomes

    • strengthen workplace culture and team morale

    • reduce burnout and improve staff retention

    • support psycho-social-emotional workplace obligations

    • increase effective risk management through improved capacity and skill of staff

  • Sometimes the signs are in what you are feeling, whether that be overwhelm or stress, that feeling of dread that creeps up before a new work week, feeling dissatisfied in your role or fighting a busy mind that you can’t shut off. It could be in that desire for more - to learn more, develop new skills or feeling ready to progress in your career.

Sometimes it is in situations you find yourself in, whether that be ones that are high-stress or emotionally impactful, or when you begin to notice difficulties in juggling work with personal life. It could be that you feel outside your comfort zone, or are aiming to promote or increase your role responsibility.

Sometimes the signs are in the questions we find ourselves asking - Is this the right job or role for me? How can I improve my practice or performance? How do I work through this situation? How do I recover or prevent myself from burning out so that I can continue working in an area I love?

Maybe your curiosity about it is an indicator that it would be worth trying?

  • Professional Supervision is not field or role specific but is most commonly utilised in those that are high risk, crisis-driven, involve working in a high stress environment or can be psychologically taxing.

At Reflection At Your Door, we believe that how an individual experiences their work place or role is unique to them, and challenges within the workplace do not discriminate based on roles or the type of work that is being completed.

If you or your team are experiencing work-related stress or wish to grow professionally, professional supervision will be beneficial.

  • Professional Supervision is not clinical mental health support. Whilst professional supervision has mental health benefits, it should not take the place of accessing psychological or medical services if required.

Professional Supervision is also not free of mandatory reporting requirements. Reflection At Your Door has a responsibility to act on information that suggests a child is at risk, or, that there are immediate wellbeing or safety concerns for the client. If this is required, Reflection At Your Door always aims to communicate this with you if safe to do so and work with you on finding a solution.
